I have been repairing and restoring FIAT 124 Spiders since the early 1990′s. In that time I have compiled a number of documents that owners find useful in restoring their own cars. These documents are free for downloading, I only ask that you not repost them on other sites without my permission or modify them in any way. If you find errors or omissions please contact me through this website.
FIAT 124 Spider Engine Maintenance and Modification
This is the most recent version of my popular guide to working on your 124 Spider. It is heavily focused on the combustion cycle, from tuning your car to selecting carburetors, heads, and exhaust systems. It covers fully the various Weber carburetors FIAT used on the vehicles and the Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection system used on the Spider 2000. It is useful as a primer in getting a Spider optimally tuned using off-the-shelf parts without serious engine modifications.
Electrical
Scanned FIAT literature and beautiful CAD wiring diagrams for your Spider. Most literature is scanned and, where possible (when the scan quality is adequate), can be searched. The wiring diagrams are CAD based and highly legible interpretations of the factory diagrams. They can be zoomed, rotated, scaled, and printed to any size with perfect clarity. Early diagrams, which were previously very hard to use due to their compact size and “all on one page” printing, are now split by wire color onto separate pages. This makes it easy to trace circuits throughout the car. Diagrams have complete component references and, where necessary, relay charts and fuse locations.
Weber Carburetors and Bosch Fuel Injection
FIAT used a number of Weber carburetors on the 124 Spider. Reference guides are available for all of the carburetors used on the Spider and some other FIAT models. Also included is a full reference on the DCOE series including a very good section on tuning dual carbs on a four cylinder engine.
Service Letters
Throughout production of the Spider (and other FIATs) service letters were published to update dealers and mechanics on the cars. These letters are organized as FIAT originally produced them – note that the date on each letter is the date of publication, not necessarily the date for your model year.
